What to Know Before Ordering

Simple Cake orders require 2-3 week minimum notice

Tiered Cake orders require 3-4 weeks minimum notice

Fondant Cake orders required 3 weeks minimum notice


This is our busiest time of year! Please plan ahead!

(3-4 week notice on all cake orders is highly recommended to assure design and availability)

Step 1:

Choose your cake size!

One of the first things you should consider when ordering your cake is how many people you need it to feed. You can select any size from the list below based on your event size.

4-inch: 4-6 servings

6-inch: 8-10 servings

8-inch: 12-15 servings

10-inch: 25-30 servings

12-inch: 30-35 servings

14-inch: 40-45 servings

The measurements refer to the diameter of each round cake. A single-level cake measures approximately

4-5 inches tall.

Step 3:

Choose your cake filling

Once you have your cake size and flavor, you can move on to fillings. These are the yummy layers of goodness piped between the layers of your cake. Your filling selection will provide you with a base price for your selected cake size.

Additional charges will be added on for custom decor and fresh fruit fillings.

You're nearly done! Now let's think about how you want you cake to look on the outside. When selecting a frosting flavor, please remember that vanilla buttercream is the only frosting that can be colored!

Step 5:

select a photo reference

The final thing we need from you when placing a cake order is a reference photo. It might sound silly, but providing a reference photo at booking will save a lot of time when telling us about how you want your cake to look! Unless you are asking for a very basic design, a reference photo is required for all orders

Frequently asked questions

How do I place an order?

The easiest way to place an order is by filling out a cake inquiry form (for cakes only) or emailing us at Not a computer person? No problem, give us a call at 201-485-8889 and we will help you out! Our busiest days are Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. If you are calling to book, confirm, or go over an order, recommend calling between Tuesday and Thursday as we will be able to spend more time helping you.

How far in advance should I place my order?

Please remember that we are not your average bakery. We are a speciality dessert shop that bakes fresh daily. Every cake/cupcake order is MADE TO ORDER. All basic cupcake/cake orders must be placed 1 week in advance. Kara Kakes books occasion cakes/cupcakes 2-3 weeks in advance, and can only accept a certain amount of specialty orders per week. We recommend ordering your cake or cupcakes as soon as you know the details! Once a weekend is fully booked, we are not able to accept any more orders. Large orders should be booked at least 1-2 months in advance to avoid disappointment.

Do you carry gluten free, dairy free, sugar free or vegan?

At this time, we do not carry dairy free, sugar free or vegan desserts. Please check in soon as we are currently working on a few recipes. We do have gluten free cupcakes available in store every day!

Is your kitchen nut free?

We are NOT a nut free facility. All of our desserts are baked in the same oven and are prepared with the same tools and equipment. We take every precaution when washing and sanitizing our kitchen utensils and equipment. We have provided our desserts to many schools and families who have nut allergy concerns, and have always had positive feedback. Please notify us of any allergy concerns prior to consuming our goods or placing an order.

Do I need to leave a deposit?

Yes, all orders require at least a 50% deposit upon booking. Your order will not go into the Kara Kakes calendar without a deposit.

What information should I have ready before I order?

Please have your desired date, pick up/delivery time, cake size (if applicable), quantity, flavor, filling (for cakes), and frosting selections ready. A photo reference is also required for speciality orders. PLEASE research prior to placing your order. Due to an overwhelming amount of inquires, we are unable to research inspirations cakes for you.

What types of payment do you accept?

We accept cash and all major credit cards.

Do you deliver?

Yes we do! Please contact us for pricing! We do not ship.

Do you have pre-made cakes?

We have Ready to Go cakes everyday! Please call us in the morning to reserve one as they sell out quickly!

How should I store my cakes/cupcakes?

Any cupcakes with buttercream can be left room temperature overnight. Cupcakes with fresh fruit, fresh whipped cream, or cream cheese should be refridgerated overnight, and be taken out 30-60 minutes before serving. Our cupcakes are best when room temperature. Please remember our Kara Kakes boxes are not air tight. Boxes should be wrapped in seal wrap or foil, or contents should be moved to an air tight container. Please consult with us on how you should store your cake overnight!
